What is FoodGuessr?
FoodGuessr turns a plate of food into a geography puzzle. In Classic, the answer is a country or region associated with the dish. You inspect the photograph and written clues, choose a location, and use the feedback to narrow your next attempt. Clueffy’s Day 21 caption names FoodGuessr. The current official site also offers Cuisine Match and Plate-Off, which ask different questions; this guide covers Classic.

QUICK START / CONTROLS
How to play FoodGuessr
- Open the official site and choose Classic. Pick the daily challenge or configure a separate game; the regular Classic menu offers round and timer options.
- Read the ingredients and preparation notes, and study the photograph before choosing a country or region from the search field.
- If your answer misses, use the direction and distance feedback. After two incorrect guesses, the dish name becomes another clue.
- You have up to five guesses for each dish. Finish the rounds to review your score; the standard Classic game has five rounds.
FoodGuessr scoring explained
A first-attempt correct answer earns 5,000 points. Each additional guess costs 1,000, while a nearby wrong guess can recover some points. The official instructions do not give a full distance-to-points formula. Direction and distance use the closest borders of the guessed and target locations. Some dishes accept more than one location, and the game treats certain regions as separate answers.

FoodGuessr strategy & tips
Combine clues before choosing
Separate what you see from what you recognise. A familiar garnish can appear in several cuisines. Look for a combination of ingredients, cooking method and serving style before committing to a location.
Let feedback change your hypothesis
After a miss, pause before trying a neighbouring country. Compare the compass with the ingredients: a direction can eliminate part of your shortlist, but it does not explain the food on its own.
Use practice to learn distinctions
After a regular game, write down which ingredient or technique would have helped you distinguish two plausible locations. That creates a useful memory cue for another dish without turning your next daily attempt into an answer lookup.
